Emerging Leaders Program – run by Shorlette Ammons-Stephens (Shorlette.Stephens@waynegov.com)
emergence – the belief that bringing the right people together empowers them to organize and act
- participate in field trips & workshops learning 1.) hands-on growing skills, 2.) food system knowledge and speak, and 3.) leadership and entrepreneurial skills
- work in their own neighborhoods to assess community food needs & opportunities
- volunteer on community based projects helping our community grow and know good food

Interest Meeting: WFI Emerging Leaders Program, Wed, Feb. 11th at 5pm, WCPL
Field Trip: Durham, Everybody Eats, Sat, March 7th, 10am-2:30pm, leave from Dillard Academy (growing skill share and volunteer work)
Workshop: Food Justice 101, Sat, March 21st, 10am-2:30pm, WCPL Goldsboro (food system knowledge, leadership development) –visiting presenters: Tahz Walker, Justin Robinson, DIG SEEDs youth from Durham, and Garden @ Garden youth
Workshop: Food Works 101, Sat, May 16th, 10am-5:30pm, followed by community potluck and music! Community Crisis Center (how to start a business intro, building a garden, cooking for others) –visiting presenters: John Parker from Good Works, Chris Rumbley from Bountiful Backyards, Rob Jones from Crop Mob, Vimala Rajendran from “Vimala Cooks, Everybody Eats”, and musicians tba
Organizational Meeting: Thu, June 11th, 5-6:30pm, WCPL
Ground UP! camp: July 19-25th, Stone House, Mebane NC, we can send up to 4 teens. Youth Orgs from across the triangle area will share their knowledge and work on Food Systems and Food Justice issues all week.
